DANCE AT BURNABY CENTRAL
Scroll down to watch our first full performance, 'A Night of Dance' from November 2018.
Dance 8 is an introduction to the world of dance! Students work collaboratively to explore dance elements and create choreography in a number of genres. Dance elements are explored through dance games, choreography and group assignments that allow students to experience rhythm, spatial awareness and practice respectful work habits. Students will have multiple performance opportunities within the class and will practice self and peer-assessment throughout the course which will contribute to their final mark. This course is a part of the Grade 8 rotation and allows students to immerse themselves in the world of dance in a low-risk, high-energy environment.
Dance 9 - 12:
Dancers of all backgrounds and levels of experience are welcome in Dance 9 - 12! This course is an exploration of a multitude of dance genres, including: street jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, musical theatre and much more. Dancers will develop their dance technique, dance vocabulary as well as learn and perform choreography in many dance styles in a safe and accepting learning environment. Students will have a chance to learn choreography but also to create and perform their own original choreography. There are many performance opportunities, such as flash mobs and the evening performance which occurs closer to the end of the semester. A large part of this course is self-assessment and practicing self-reflection as a dancer. Whether you have been dancing your whole life or just wanting to start now - this is the course for you!
